If Climate Change Really Behaves Like A Husband?

What a husband usually does after a few years of his marriage.

He loses interest in his wife and develops more interests in others' wives.

The same rule applies to climate change with a little difference.

It affects those more which creates it less while affecting less those which create it a lot.

A wife cares more for her husband and gets lesser in return. A girlfriend cares less for her boyfriend and gets more in return.

climate change
It is a brutal injustice that those who are causing climate change are not its worst victims. While those that are not contributing much to it, are suffering most from its worst effects.

A less-developed country - like Pakistan - does not pollute the air as much as a developed country does.

Top 5 reasons of slow pace of sustainable development

where sustainable development is less
Everywhere there is loud talk on sustainable development but practically it is not taken seriously in most parts of the world. In developed part of the world including America and Europe though it is done in certain sectors but it is not being done across the board in all sectors. Oil and gas sector is its glaring example where powerful lobbies are still in favor of black energy against the green one and fully pressurizing their governments to continue it. In developing and less developed world situation is still alarming.

But what is sustainable development?

It is development you make while fully taking care of environment. If you want to construct a building you must not hit the environment of the area where you want to erect it. If some hit is done to environment you must compensate it after fully completing your building. For this purpose

Top 5 reasons you must not become environmentalist in a poor country

Americans less worried on environmental decay than before

worrying for pollution

According to a recent survey conducted by The Huffington Post, the concerns of Americans about the importance of environment for a better life declined significantly as compare to what they thought about it some thirty years ago.
The survey says that most of the Americans are now moderately worried while a couple of decades ago the green agenda was in the top list of their concerns. The reasons of decline in their environmental concerns may be:
  • Lack of interest of the government to control pollution at a massive level
  • The creation of several global forums to control pollution that may have pacified their worries
  • Emergence of one after another form of pollution that disappointed them so much so they

How to become environment minister in any poor country?

how is the status of environment in poor countries
You need not to hold any degree in the discipline of environmental sciences. Nor you should have any experience in the field of any sector related to green horizon. More interestingly if you are not highly qualified even then it's no problem. You have all the eligibility to become environment minister of any poor country of Asia or Africa. You just need to be the member of the parliament of that country and that's all. If you belong to ruling party and have no much say in your party then chances are very bright that you are made environment minister of your country. It's reason is that environment is low-priority sector in poor countries that is why powerful political representatives don't like to become its minister. That is why you can easily take over green portfolio without facing any major competition from your colleagues.

Environment sector is orphan in poor countries

In poor countries orphan is considered a person or thing that does not have any support. The sector of environment is kept in least priority in poor countries. Though environmental problems are

Water, 2 billion people are dying for it; but how long?

how to control water shortage
This was the slogan of World Environment Day of 2003 that means one decade ago two billion people were facing water shortage all across the world. Now after ten years that count must have risen up because of the two factors; 1) owing to rising population of the world and 2) due to expanding water scarcity all across the globe. Surely that number must have crossed the figure of 2 billion and now it is moving towards 3 billion.

Latest facts about water shortage

It is very surprising to know that world water leaders have coined this impressive slogan ten years ago to make people act for the conservation of water. Did they succeed in their attempt? Here are the latest facts about water scarcity that shows how much they have been succeeded in their efforts.
  • Owing to persistent water shortage nearly 3.5 million people all across the globe die and 99 percent of them are from developing world.
  • The shortage of clean drinking water kills the kids all over the world at a rate equal to the one that results in one jumbo jet crash after every four hours.
  • Every year 60 million people shift from villages to cities and towns all around the world but all of them have to settle in slums and informal settlements because of no sanitation and water supply facilities. It means there is an addition of 60 million people slum areas in human settlements every year.

Poor countries fail to manage environmental information

how to manage environmental data
If you don’t know about the exact information of a problem how do you solve it? This is the main issue of every less developed country of the world. They don’t have exact environmental data to solve the problems related to their environment. They neither have capacity to collect such data nor do they have ability to manage it. As a result environmental managers of such countries just talk on the basis of guesstimates. They make their every green plan on rough estimates. That is why most of their green plans fail to bring results. Eventually they groan that they are working so hard to solve the pollution problems but because of unknown reasons they are not in a position to solve them upfront. As a result their people suffer and pay the price of the inefficiency of their green demagogues in shape of their degrading health and their weakening physical environment.

What is environmental information?

Environmental information means all the data that reflect; how is the environment of a country. It usually covers:
  • Air quality of the country which means is its ambient air has or has not the required balance and ratio of the requisite gases and other matter.

Water is life - Respect it, Conserve it, Enjoy it

World Water Day is celebrated every year on 22nd March all over the world. UN General Assembly declared it in 1993 and since then global green fraternity has been observing it at global and local levels. The theme of 2013 for this day is; water is life – respect it, conserve it, enjoy it. The chief aim to observe this event is to make aware people on:
  • Our water resources are limited so we have to conserve them.
  • Fresh or sweet water is far less than the salt water on Earth hence we must not waste it
  • Polluted water is the most dangerous element for life on Earth so we must avoid it

To communicate the message of World Water Day various types of events are organized all around the world by the governmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, corporations, communities, clubs and other forums to make people realize the importance of water in human life. People are made aware on how to use water with minimum wastage and how to avoid polluting the water.

Water is life; respect it

An average human body’s total composition is 70 per cent of water. It means water is the most essential element in life without which physical survival is next to impossible. After oxygen this is the second most essential need of human beings more particularly and all living beings in general. It confirms the oft-repeated proverbial reality that water is life. So don’t take water as an unimportant thing even if it is available in your area free of cost.

From environmental activist to government official

US EPA very smartly embraced an environmental activist from Houston and appointed him on the post of Director Environmental Justice. It is a well established department in US environmental watchdog. Its objective is to provide environmental justice to those who are suffering from various types of the environmental degradations.

Matthew Tejada

It is a smart move because before being tapped as Director US EPA, Matthew Tejada was very vocal to raise voice against environmental pollution in his area. He was leader of an activist group Air Alliance Houston. He fought against pollution in poor neighborhoods surrounding Gulf Coast ports.

Is it a welcome move?

Analysts are watching this move by US EPA with mixed feelings. One group is welcoming this with the hopes that now Tejada would be more effective to further his cause through an official platform. They believe now he can register any type of environmental violation at the relevant forum and can authoritatively take action against the offence. They think that US EPA has to fully use his abilities for the cause of environmental protection and conservation.

Obama faces hard choice of energy or environment in 2013

US to regulate hydraulic fracturing
Energy or environment; Obama has to pick one of them while implementing the gas extraction plan where a procedure hydraulic fracturing is to be adopted for its implementation.

What is hydraulic fracturing?

Under the process of the hydraulic fracturing millions of gallon water along with the sand and certain chemicals are injected underground to split the rocks and extract gas from them. Owing to this procedure the mixture of the water, sand and chemicals pose big environmental threat to the underground water and other flora and fauna. It may also spill back to the surface in huge quantity and hits the land especially fertility of the agriculture land.

US EPA wants to regulate hydraulic fracturing

Environmental Protection Agency of USA has proposed to regulate this procedure of gas extraction. It suggested restricting the gas explorers to treat the mixture of the water, sand and chemicals before letting it come back over the surface. Similarly they have to adopt measures to make this mixture minimum harmful to the underground land and its environment. This proposal is in draft form which needs to be approved by the President Barrack Obama after its necessary approval from the US parliament.

What is environmental performance index?

Switzerland is the number one in environmental performance while Iraq is number last in the category. Latvia, Norway, Luxembourg, Costa Rica, France, Austria, Italy, United Kingdom and Sweden are among the top countries of the word which stand on the top in taking care of their domestic environment through policy making and efficient implementation of the green laws.
According the EnvironmentPerformance Index 2012 (EPI) –it is released biannually by the Yale University – Tajikistan, Eritrea, Libyan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, India, Kuwait, Yemen, South Africa, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iraq are the worst performers in protection of their domestic environment because of the poor implementation mechanism of their environmental laws. The main cause of concern in the category of worst environmental performers is the presence of India that has huge potential to grow further in industrialization. It is a warning to the whole world if Indian industrial sector keeps on growing in same pace; it would be a major contributor in global warming and climate change in future.
