Americans less worried on environmental decay than before

worrying for pollution

According to a recent survey conducted by The Huffington Post, the concerns of Americans about the importance of environment for a better life declined significantly as compare to what they thought about it some thirty years ago.
The survey says that most of the Americans are now moderately worried while a couple of decades ago the green agenda was in the top list of their concerns. The reasons of decline in their environmental concerns may be:
  • Lack of interest of the government to control pollution at a massive level
  • The creation of several global forums to control pollution that may have pacified their worries
  • Emergence of one after another form of pollution that disappointed them so much so they become least concerned about it
  • A ray of hope in shape of green energy that may made them expect improvement in future
  • Rise of several other problems of similar nature especially global terrorism that may have shifted their focus from pollution

Environmental concerns in developing nations

On the other hand in developing countries the concerns of people about environmental decay is one the rise but their governments are not doing much to curb environmental degradation. Some developing countries in frenzy to become the regional economic tigers are compromising on environmental aspect of their development just to take advantage of lower prices and capture more share in global market. But global protest at public and institutional level has a little bound them to fully fulfil their green responsibility and don't make this world more polluted.

State of environment in LDCs

The state of environment in less developed countries (LDCs) is quite alarming. These countries are also joining the race of more and more production at the cost of precious natural resources. But simultaneously because of weaker mechanism to implement green laws these countries fail to punish the polluters and are unable to control the pollution. A cursory look over the state of environment of poor countries of Asia and Africa is enough to tell the brown state of their green affairs.

Conclusion

One thing is common in all the regions be they are rich, moderate or poor that show of public concerns on environmental degradation is not as intense as it should be. People come out in huge number on roads for their pay raise or civil rights but when there is an issue of environment a small number of people from selected green NGOs raise their voice that does not echo all around the world. As a result vested interest succeed to achieve their polluting commercial interests and hit the environment for the sake of their business and development.
