Did you ever hear this type of
the harms of air pollution? What if you are not allowed to play games because
you may inhale a lot of polluted air while playing? This happened in China
where owing to rising level of air contamination its sportspersons may be
forbidden to play till it reduces back.
Yes believe me I am not kidding.
Owing to the alarmingly rising level of air pollution in China the city
government of its capital Beijing issued a warning to the sportspersons of the
metropolis. They are directed not to play if contaminants in the air increase
to the level of 500 particles.
Air pollution shot up in China
Right now the air pollution in
Beijing is ranging from 176 to 442 as recorded on 12th January 2013.
Its level is considered not harmful if it is near about 50. If it crosses the
level of 300 it becomes more dangerous to human life. Its escalating level
promptly affects the people’s health by causing eye irritation, migraine,
asthma, throat infection, skin allergy and respiratory disease including the
deadly lung cancer in people. If people have to breathe fast because of a workout
or sports they would be more vulnerable to this menace.
In winter air pollution aggravates more
Every year Beijing city
government warns its citizen to adopt precautionary measures against the
notoriously rising level of air pollution in the city. In winter fog and haze
level rise up and it mix into the vehicular and industrial emissions and become
worst form of the smog pollution. China fulfill its energy needs through coal.
Its coal power plants in huge number are worldwide notorious for their high
level of carbon emissions. Its unplanned and robust industrial growth has
already overtaken the slow speed of its pollution control measures.
China should make development sustainable
Global observers have all the
rights to ask if China is so much aggressive to produce more and earn more
foreign exchange why not it takes environmental measures to control its air
pollution. Chinese products are abundant in every market of the world but now
its carbon emissions are also following its products in size and quantity.
Poor neighbors of China suffer
Another sad aspect of the air
pollution in China is its huge number of neighbors. China is one of the few
countries in the world that has 14 neighbors. Some of them are very poor
including Afghanistan, Bhutan, Pakistan, Laos, Myanmar, Mongolia, Nepal and
India. Air emissions do not know any borders. Therefore, its neighbor would
equally be affect by its air contaminants. Eventually they would hit ozone
layer over the sky and will expand its depletion.
Conclusion
Most of the maladies in China are
defended on the argument of its huge size. It is enormous in size and
population. But is there any law to give leniency to any country on the basis
of its size. If it is so big it must equally have more resources. The need is
to keep balance between environment and development. For this purpose China has
to bring drastic changes in its pollution control system. Otherwise its entire
development would be offset by the rising level of pollution and one-day it has
to stand in the row of the least developed countries.
